Groundbreaking fashion brand Cap_able Design made headlines thanks to innovative technology that protects wearers of their sweaters and hoodies from facial recognition software. So when the brand made its retail debut, Philadelphia boutique Trunc was the perfect fit.
Cap_able founder Rachele Didero is just one of the small business owners who work with Trunc's founder Dorothea Gamble to bring unique items to Philadelphia. Located on 2nd St. in the Northern Liberties neighborhood, Trunc became the first retailer in the world to carry Capable earlier this Fall, and celebrated the award-winning garments highlighted in the Manifesto Collection with a launch party that attracted both Trunc regulars and Cap_able fans.
Trunc is a Black, woman, and veteran-owned boutique founded in 2018 by partners Dorothea Gamble and Dagmar Mitchell. Trunc works with artisans from diverse backgrounds to amplify their philosophy that sustainability, quality, and affordability should not be mutually exclusive while working to shift the paradigm of how small-scale, artisanal goods are viewed and valued in retail. Their goal is ambitious, but their ethos is simple, which is to offer functional, handcrafted products that all have a point of view.
This mission also made Trunc the perfect retail partner for Bonde Mercado, and shoppers can now find the Bonde Mercado Taste Box on the shelves at Trunc. The Bonde Mercado Taste Box features food and drink items from Black-owned brands based in Philadelphia, Bronx, NY, Charleston and D.C., so Trunc is an ideal retail partner to carry forth the mission of elevating diverse founders who are trying to make a difference with great products.
Cap_able's Manifesto Collection is the first design collection that offers knitted garments that shield facial recognition to challenge and create awareness of the improper use of facial recognition technology. In addition, Cap_able technology addresses one of the fastest-growing human rights concerns, data privacy. Currently, biometric data of people is often stored by large databases where it is then combined with personal data to profile citizens, and as we’ve seen historically, underrepresented communities are often left vulnerable to discrimination and profiling without additional regulations or protections. Cap_able’s technology shields anyone who is wearing their garment from having their data collected, shared and worse case, sold.
